Honoring the Dead on Days of The Dead

One of the most intense magickal and spiritual holidays of the year is on us. Dias De Los Muertos, Days of The Dead, and the days surrounding it.
To me Halloween is like New Year's Eve, a day for young people to go all out in celebration. Then The Days of The Dead are the days not only you celebrate and pay respects to the ancestors but you communicate with them too! It is a time when you make peace with the veil between the two worlds and realize that death and life are one continuous flow and nothing to fear.
I have done a few healing ceremonies in this past week. All of them happened to be people who are starting to age and on one hand wanting to recapture the energy of their youth, but also have it in their heads that they can or should out run death because every ache and pain brings them a little closer. I am personally not an elder yet but I know what it is like to wonder about what it is that I will personally see when I knock at the door of death.
Magick will not make you immortal, my blessed ones. It will make your time here more pleasantly tolerable when done right. When the dying finally cross, they haven't left you behind, but only the bodies that were no longer serving them. They are as present as you allow them to be when you honor them. This is the same place that ultimately you will go. It is no place to fear.
When we celebrate the ancestors during this season we let them know they are not forgotten and we etch out a pleasant space for us to be once we join them. Interacting with that veil can remove our apprehensions of it.
As for healing at this time, this time is an excellent opportunity for you to seek a message about where the flow of life will take you. If you are seriously or chronically ill, it is a time to commune with the ancestors. Continue your medical and healing treatments with the understanding that if your body is winding down, still, your spirit is gearing up.
And as for those who are young and well. Commune with your ancestors. Celebrate your memories of them and ask them to infuse you with their strengths. Burn white skulls candles sprinkled with sugar to honor the sweet parts of their lives, and place things on the altar that remind you of their favorite things in life. Play music, dance and be happy. Because it is all an ebb and flow.
